Guide to Sustainable Living

OVERVIEW

There is always something you can do to live more sustainably, regardless of your age, location, profession, etc. Based on the interconnected parts of Holistic Sustainability, below are the recommended steps to transform from Ignorance to Integral (from not knowing about a challenge to being a leader for solutions to solve that challenge).

The food we eat, clothing we wear, technology we use, homes we live in, water we rely on, transportation we get around in, jobs we work, and media we consume… all have impacts on both people & planet. Understanding those indirect & direct impacts allow us to do all of those things sustainably, so that we can continue to do them long into the future. The success of Holistic Sustainability requires that we have a long-term outlook.

What you are able to contribute may change over time, but there is always something. You can give your time and/or money. You can make changes to your own lifestyle and then encourage others (friends, family, community) to do the same. And it is much more effective to “practice” BEFORE you “teach/preach”. In fact, even the power of silently leading-by-example can have the most profound impact, as others seek to emulate a lifestyle after seeing how well it works for someone else (so make sure it’s working well).
