California

From Humboldt & Monterey to Yosemite & Anza-Borrego, the parks & open spaces to explore are endless!

Wildlife in Borrego Palm Canyon, California

A glimpse of what you might see on a day hike in Borrego Palm Canyon: California fan palms, wildflowers, bighorn sheep, lizards, insects, etc.

Note: a fire in January 2020 unfortunately burned the palms which appear in this video, but park officials are hopeful it will lead to new growth.

Sierra Mountains to the Pacific Ocean

A compilation of moments from the end of one year and start of another, including adventures in Monterey, Bolinas & Yosemite.

The Perfect Coastal Hike

Andrew Molera is one of my favorite places to hike along the central coast! The 8.8-mile loop starts near the small river which empties into the ocean, then climbs to the ridge with views of the coastline, Pico Blanco, wildflowers & even a chance of whales, and then finishes through oak trees standing over brilliant wild irises.

Summer Garden

Nestled under the pine trees of Pacific Grove, this garden is providing for more than just gardeners. After months of hard work and patience, the garden is full of vibrant greens as the edibles come into bloom and fruit. The playful chickens roam the lower reaches while beans and Roma tomatoes trellis toward the coastal sky.

Wine Tasting in Sanoma

When a friend has a birthday, sharing time & tasting notes in the beautiful Sanoma valley is the perfect choice.

Time to Plant!

Spring Equinox has passed and the moon is waxing; it's a perfect time to plant if you're in the northern hemisphere. Here’s a glimpse into what my garden looks like.

Ranch Life, A Hidden Gem

Sometimes it’s necessary to leave city life behind and explore the simple things in life. This ranch is hidden deep in the Klamath National Forest, where the Oregon border lies nearby. Bear, mountain lion, rattlesnake, deer, praying mantis and many others call this forest their home.

Planting it Forward!

Transforming yards into edible landscapes allows for fresh farm-to-table fruit, vegetables & herbs, and also offers teaching moments for kids & a safe place for pollinators and other urban wildlife. Learn how to turn your yard into an edible wildlife corridor and continue to “Plant-it-Forward”.
